How to Play Merge Tactics in Clash Royale
Getting started with Merge Tactics in Clash Royale is easy! This exciting new game mode combines strategic troop merging with intense 4-player battles. Just follow these simple steps to find and play the new merge tactics mode:
From the Clash Royale lobby, tap the mode selection button (highlighted in red) to view all available game modes including the new merge tactics mode.
In the mode selection menu, choose Merge Tactics (highlighted in red), then press Battle to jump into the action and start merging troops!
Pro Tip: Merge Tactics is available as a special mode in Clash Royale—if you don't see it, make sure your game is updated to the latest version. Enjoy merging troops, strategizing, and battling against other players in this exciting new merge tactics game mode!
Merge Tactics Basics - Understanding the Game Mode
4-Player Battle Royale
Each merge tactics match features four players competing to be the last one standing in this intense Clash Royale game mode.
Random Opponent Each Round
In every round of merge tactics, you'll face a randomly selected opponent from the other three players, making each match unpredictable.
Match Duration
Games typically last 5–8 minutes, depending on how much health players lose each round in this fast-paced merge tactics mode.
Trophy Rewards
Finish in the top 2 to earn Merge Tactics trophies at the end of the match, climbing the Clash Royale trophy road.
Random Modifiers
Each merge tactics match features random modifiers that provide unique advantages and shake up gameplay, adding strategic depth.

Merge Tactics Gameplay Rules - Master the Mechanics
Elixir System
You receive 4 Elixir at the start of each round in merge tactics to buy and manage your troops strategically.
Buy & Sell Troops
Purchase and sell troops for Elixir during the round in merge tactics. Troops can only be placed on the battlefield when the round starts.
Ruler Damage
Your selected Ruler doesn't fight directly in merge tactics, but after each round, deals damage to the losing Ruler equal to your remaining troops plus 1 (for the Ruler).
Troop Merging & Stars
Troops have up to 4 star levels in merge tactics. Buying two of the same troop merges them automatically—only troops with the same star level can merge. This is the core merge troops mechanic.
Traits & Bonuses
Troops have traits in merge tactics. Collecting troops with the same trait grants bonus stats and special effects, adding strategic depth to merge troops gameplay.

At launch, there are 20 troops available in Merge Tactics. Each troop has its own elixir cost and unique abilities for strategic merge troops gameplay. The available troops may change with each season, and new troops could be added in the future, just like in Clash Royale.

Note: These could be the first 20 troops released in merge tactics, or they may rotate seasonally. Future seasons may add new troops, similar to how Clash Royale introduces new cards. Mastering merge troops combinations is key to success.
Merge Tactics Rulers - Spirit Empress & Royale King
Royale King
Grants +4 elixir each round you lose in merge tactics.
Tip: Taking a loss in the early rounds, when ruler damage is low, can be a smart merge tactics strategy to build up more elixir for later rounds with the Royale King.
Spirit Empress
Grants double elixir on merge. Merging troops gives you +1 elixir, but with Spirit Empress, you get double the elixir when merging troops in merge tactics.
Tip: Merge troops even if you don't deploy them in the Arena to maximize your elixir gain with Spirit Empress. This is a key merge tactics strategy for the Spirit Empress ruler.
Merge Tactics Modifiers - Strategic Advantages
27 modifiers are released in this first season of merge tactics, 1 modifier at random is assigned to all players in the match at the start. These modifiers provide strategic advantages that make pushing trophies worthwhile and develop interest for players to unlock and get more powerful in Merge Tactics.
Modifier Examples:
- Extra Starting Elixir - Begin with more elixir than usual in merge tactics
- Extra Troops - Start with additional troops in your deck for better merge troops strategies
- First Troop is 2 or 3 Star - Your first deployed troop starts at a higher star level in merge tactics
- Troop Promotions - Troops that aren't deployed get stacked at the stage area, enhancing merge troops gameplay
- Elixir Collector - Special troops you can sell for elixir in merge tactics
